Dear Friends and Families of Troop 007,

My name is Aaron Brent and I am a Life Scout in Troop 007 currently working towards the Eagle Scout rank. To achieve that goal I must perform an community service project. My Eagle Scout project is the creation of Living Supply Assistance Packages (which I call Life Essentials Packs) that can be easily distributed to homeless people or people in need through the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Baltimore Maryland. The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is a national organization that collaborates with all to relieve the needs of those in poverty or who are suffering and address the causes for this suffering. The Baltimore Chapter's Mission is simply stated:

"To ensure that individuals and families in our community have the resources and opportunity to care for themselves and build a better future."

In recent history our economic situation has created and increasing number of individuals who are in need of basic assistance and housing. By helping the St. Vincent de Paul Society carry out its mission I feel that this project will help by giving needy people a hand up instead of a hand out.

The Living Supply Assistance Packages will be of 50 school type backpacks filled with non-perishable living supplies. The backpacks will contain toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, mouthwash, floss, brushes, razor, shaving cream, deodorant / antiperspirant, soap, shampoo, towel, wash cloths, small mirror, ponchos, blankets, and packaged wipes.

I have spent a notable amount of time designing this project, with the help of my Eagle Advisor. I have documented the project concept, its implementation process, pricing, and submitted it for approval to our Troop Committee Chairman and Scoutmaster, a representative from the St. Vincent De Paul society, and the District office for the Boy Scouts of America. The project was approved with some minor amendments and am commencing work on it now.  My hope is to complete this project in August or September 2012, before I started college

I have estimated that it will take 60 man hours to complete and cost approximately $3,000.00 for materials. Before I can start work on my project, I am required to raise all the funds and organize a day for a volunteer work crew to help me package the backpacks with the living supplies. The Troop 007 families can be of great help in two ways.

1.      Offer donations to cover the cost of a specific material, or part of the cost for a specific material. If you are willing to donate funds, please make your check out to Troop 007. All funds raised will go towards the project. All excess funds will be donated to the St. Vincent De Paul society. Checks can be given to me at scout meetings or sent to my home at 14550 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood, MD 21738.

2.      Volunteer to help assemble and complete on the project on a day in August.  I hope to have assistance from about 15 people No special skills will be required and we will have a cookout/pool party for all the volunteers as a thank you and a celebration for getting the job done.

Please email me or approach me at a scout meeting if you have any questions or concerns, my email address is aaronbrent80@gmail.com and my phone number is 410-489-0122. This information will also be on the website at www.Troop007.org/lifepacks. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Aaron Brent
